    40S Ribosomal Protein S27

Expressed in actively proliferating cells by human RPS27 Gene (S27E Family), 83-aa 9-kDa Ribosomal Protein S27 is located in the cytoplasm as a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, but is also detected in the nucleus. Composed of small 40S and large 60S subunits containing 4 rRNAs and approximately 80 proteins, ribosomes catalyze protein synthesis. S27 appears to be located near ribosomal protein S18 and to be covalently linked to translation initiation factor eIF3. S27 contains a C4-type zinc finger domain and is able to bind to nucleic acid.
