A/J Mouse
Derived by Strong (1921) from a cross between the Cold Spring harbor and Bagg Albino stocks. The A strain mouse has an albino coat (genotype a,b,c) and is susceptible to carcinogen-induced lung adenomas and cleft palate formation in response to cortisone. Also, the strain has defective macrophage function reminiscent of lps mutation common to other strains. The A strain has intermediate breeding performance with a high ratio of females at birth and a low litter size at weaning. (NCI Thesaurus)
