Requirements for Perfection
“नव, भिक्खवे, धम्मे अप्पहाय अभब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुं। कतमे नव? रागं, दोसं, मोहं, कोधं, उपनाहं, मक्खं, पळासं, इस्सं, मच्छरियं—इमे खो, भिक्खवे, नव धम्मे अप्पहाय अभब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुं।
“Nava, bhikkhave, dhamme appahāya abhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ. Katame nava? Rāgaṁ, dosaṁ, mohaṁ, kodhaṁ, upanāhaṁ, makkhaṁ, paḷāsaṁ, issaṁ, macchariyaṁ—ime kho, bhikkhave, nava dhamme appahāya abhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ.
“Bhikkhus, without giving up nine things you can’t realize perfection. What nine? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, hostility, disdain, contempt, jealousy, and stinginess. Without giving up these nine things you can’t realize perfection.
नव, भिक्खवे, धम्मे पहाय भब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुं। कतमे नव? रागं, दोसं, मोहं, कोधं, उपनाहं, मक्खं, पळासं, इस्सं, मच्छरियं—इमे खो, भिक्खवे, नव धम्मे पहाय भब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुन्”ति।
Nava, bhikkhave, dhamme pahāya bhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ. Katame nava? Rāgaṁ, dosaṁ, mohaṁ, kodhaṁ, upanāhaṁ, makkhaṁ, paḷāsaṁ, issaṁ, macchariyaṁ—ime kho, bhikkhave, nava dhamme pahāya bhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātun”ti.
After giving up nine things you can realize perfection. What nine? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, hostility, disdain, contempt, jealousy, and stinginess. After giving up these nine things you can realize the fruit of perfection.”

खेमवग्गो पठमो।
Khemavaggo paṭhamo.
तस्सुद्दानं
Tassuddānaṁ
खेमो च अमतञ्चेव, अभयं पस्सद्धियेन च; निरोधो अनुपुब्बो च, धम्मं पहाय भब्बेन चाति।
Khemo ca amatañceva, Abhayaṁ passaddhiyena ca; Nirodho anupubbo ca, Dhammaṁ pahāya bhabbena cāti.
