Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans
Definition 1
A genus of anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This bacteria is nonmotile, secretes leukotoxin, is catalase positive and ferments mannitol and xylose. A. actinomycetemcomitans is typically found as part of the oral flora and is a common cause of periodontitis. (NCI Thesaurus)
