“नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि यं एवं अदन्तं महतो अनत्थाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, चित्तं। चित्तं, भिक्खवे, अदन्तं महतो अनत्थाय संवत्तती”ति।
“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yaṁ evaṁ adantaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cittaṁ. Cittaṁ, bhikkhave, adantaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattatī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it’s not tamed, is so very harmful as the mind. A wild mind is very harmful.”

“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it is tamed, is so very beneficial as the mind. A tamed mind is very beneficial.”

“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it’s not guarded, is so very harmful as the mind. An unguarded mind is very harmful.”

“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it is guarded, is so very beneficial as the mind. A guarded mind is very beneficial.”

“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yaṁ evaṁ arakkhitaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cittaṁ. Cittaṁ, bhikkhave, arakkhitaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattatī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it’s not protected, is so very harmful as the mind. An unprotected mind is very harmful.”

“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it is protected, is so very beneficial as the mind. A protected mind is very beneficial.”

“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yaṁ evaṁ asaṁvutaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cittaṁ. Cittaṁ, bhikkhave, asaṁvutaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattatī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it’s not restrained, is so very harmful as the mind. An unrestrained mind is very harmful.”

“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yaṁ evaṁ adantaṁ aguttaṁ arakkhitaṁ asaṁvutaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cittaṁ. Cittaṁ, bhikkhave, adantaṁ aguttaṁ arakkhitaṁ asaṁvutaṁ mahato anatthāya saṁvattatī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it is not tamed, guarded, protected, and restrained, is so very harmful as the mind. An untamed, unguarded, unprotected, and unrestrained mind is very harmful.”

“नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि यं एवं दन्तं गुत्तं रक्खितं संवुतं महतो अत्थाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, चित्तं। चित्तं, भिक्खवे, दन्तं गुत्तं रक्खितं संवुतं महतो अत्थाय संवत्तती”ति।
“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yaṁ evaṁ dantaṁ guttaṁ rakkhitaṁ saṁvutaṁ mahato atthāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cittaṁ. Cittaṁ, bhikkhave, dantaṁ guttaṁ rakkhitaṁ saṁvutaṁ mahato atthāya saṁvattatī”ti.
“Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that, when it is tamed, guarded, protected, and restrained, is so very beneficial as the mind. A tamed, guarded, protected, and restrained mind is very beneficial.”
