    Adrenal Cortex Carcinoma

    Definition 1

A rare, usually large (greater than 5cm), malignant epithelial tumor arising from the adrenal cortical cells. Symptoms are usually related to the excessive production of hormones, and include Cushing's syndrome and virilism in women. Common sites of metastasis include liver, lung, bone, and retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Advanced radiologic procedures have enabled the detection of small tumors, resulting in the improvement of the 5-year survival. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

A malignant epithelial neoplasm arising from adrenal cortical cells. (NCI Thesaurus/CDISC)

    Definition 3

A rare cancer that forms in the outer layer of tissue of the adrenal gland (a small organ on top of each kidney that makes steroid hormones, adrenaline, and noradrenaline to control heart rate, blood pressure, and other body functions). (NCI Dictionary)
