Interior and Cause Are Not-Self

“Bhikkhus, the eye is not-self. The cause and reason that gives rise to the eye is also not-self. Since the eye is produced by what is not-self, how could it be self?
जिव्हा अनत्ता। योपि हेतु योपि पच्चयो जिव्हाय उप्पादाय, सोपि अनत्ता। अनत्तसम्भूता, भिक्खवे, जिव्हा कुतो अत्ता भविस्सति …पे… मनो अनत्ता। योपि हेतु योपि पच्चयो मनस्स उप्पादाय, सोपि अनत्ता। अनत्तसम्भूतो, भिक्खवे, मनो कुतो अत्ता भविस्सति।
jivhā anattā. Yopi hetu yopi paccayo jivhāya uppādāya, sopi anattā. Anattasambhūtā, bhikkhave, jivhā kuto attā bhavissati …pe… mano anattā. Yopi hetu yopi paccayo manassa uppādāya, sopi anattā. Anattasambhūto, bhikkhave, mano kuto attā bhavissati.
The ear … nose … tongue … body … mind is not-self. The cause and reason that gives rise to the mind is also not-self. Since the mind is produced by what is not-self, how could it be self?
एवं पस्सं …पे… नापरं इत्थत्तायाऽति पजानाती”ति।
Evaṁ passaṁ …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.
Seeing this … They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”
