Allogeneic Epstein-Barr Virus-Specific Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes
A preparation of allogeneic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) with potential antineoplastic activity. The allogeneic EBV-specific CTLs are either harvested from a donor with an EBV-positive tumor or are donor CTLs activated against EBV-specific antigens ex vivo. Adm inistration into a patient exerts a CTL response against EBV-positive tumor cells or EBV-infected cells. This results in cell lysis and inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. EBV, a ubiquitous human herpes virus, is associated with various malignancies, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and other lymphomas. (NCI Thesaurus)
