Demons
“चत्तारोमे, भिक्खवे, पुग्गला सन्तो संविज्जमाना लोकस्मिं। कतमे चत्तारो?
“Cattārome, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ. Katame cattāro?
“Bhikkhus, these four people are found in the world. What four?
असुरो असुरपरिवारो,
Asuro asuraparivāro,
A demon surrounded by demons,
असुरो देवपरिवारो,
asuro devaparivāro,
a demon surrounded by gods,
देवो असुरपरिवारो,
devo asuraparivāro,
a god surrounded by demons, and
देवो देवपरिवारो।
devo devaparivāro.
a god surrounded by gods.
कथञ्च, भिक्खवे, पुग्गलो असुरो होति असुरपरिवारो? इध, भिक्खवे, एकच्चो पुग्गलो दुस्सीलो होति पापधम्मो, परिसापिस्स होति दुस्सीला पापधम्मा। एवं खो, भिक्खवे, पुग्गलो असुरो होति असुरपरिवारो।
Kathañca, bhikkhave, puggalo asuro hoti asuraparivāro? Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo dussīlo hoti pāpadhammo, parisāpissa hoti dussīlā pāpadhammā. Evaṁ kho, bhikkhave, puggalo asuro hoti asuraparivāro.
And how is a person a demon surrounded by demons? It’s when a person is unethical, of bad character, and their followers are the same. That’s how a person is a demon surrounded by demons.
कथञ्च, भिक्खवे, पुग्गलो असुरो होति देवपरिवारो? इध, भिक्खवे, एकच्चो पुग्गलो दुस्सीलो होति पापधम्मो, परिसा च ख्वस्स होति सीलवती कल्याणधम्मा। एवं खो, भिक्खवे, पुग्गलो असुरो होति देवपरिवारो।
