Bacillus megaterium
Definition 1
A species of aerobic, Gram-positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is motile, spore forming, catalase positive, hydrolyzes casein, gelatin and starch, does not reduce nitrate, and utilizes citrate as its only carbon source. B. megaterium is found in soil and cow feces, associated with food-borne illness, pathogenic to humans and used to produce antimicrobial compounds. (NCI Thesaurus)
