Principles That Should Be Developed
“भावेतब्बञ्च वो, भिक्खवे, धम्मं देसेस्सामि न भावेतब्बञ्च। तं सुणाथ …पे… कतमो च, भिक्खवे, न भावेतब्बो धम्मो? पाणातिपातो …पे… मिच्छादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, न भावेतब्बो धम्मो।
“Bhāvetabbañca vo, bhikkhave, dhammaṁ desessāmi na bhāvetabbañca. Taṁ suṇātha …pe… katamo ca, bhikkhave, na bhāvetabbo dhammo? Pāṇātipāto …pe… micchādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, na bhāvetabbo dhammo.
“I will teach you the principle to develop and the principle not to develop. … Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak. And what is the principle not to develop? Killing living creatures … wrong view. This is called the principle not to develop.
कतमो च, भिक्खवे, भावेतब्बो धम्मो? पाणातिपाता वेरमणी …पे… सम्मादिट्ठि—अयं वुच्चति, भिक्खवे, भावेतब्बो धम्मो”ति।
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, bhāvetabbo dhammo? Pāṇātipātā veramaṇī …pe… sammādiṭṭhi—ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, bhāvetabbo dhammo”ti.
And what is the principle to develop? Not killing living creatures … right view. This is called the principle to develop.”
