Bifidobacterium adolescentis
Definition 1
A species of anaerobic, Gram-positive, bifid shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. This species is nonmotile, catalase negative, does not reduce nitrate, and ferments lactose, arabinose, xylose, ribose, gluconate, cellobiose, and salicin. B. adolescentis is a commensal part of the normal human gastrointestinal tract flora and is sometimes added to dairy products to be used as a probiotic. (NCI Thesaurus)
