    Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2

Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2, encoded by the BMP2 gene, is a protein that belongs to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. By signaling through receptor serine/threonine kinases, Bone morphogenic protein 2 induces bone formation. BMP2 is a candidate gene for the autosomal dominant disease of fibrodysplasia (myositis) ossificans progressiva. (NCI Thesaurus/LocusLink)
