“पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। कतमेहि पञ्चहि? अस्सद्धो, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। अहिरिको, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। अनोत्तप्पी, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। कुसीतो, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। दुप्पञ्ञो, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु चवति, नप्पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे।
“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Katamehi pañcahi? Assaddho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Ahiriko, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Anottappī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Kusīto, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Duppañño, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme.
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu with five qualities fails, and doesn’t establish themselves in the true teaching. What five? A bhikkhu who is faithless … shameless … imprudent … lazy … witless fails, and doesn’t establish themselves in the true teaching. A bhikkhu with these five qualities fails, and doesn’t establish themselves in the true teaching.
पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। कतमेहि पञ्चहि? सद्धो, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। हिरीमा, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। ओत्तप्पी, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। आरद्धवीरियो, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। पञ्ञवा, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे। इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु न चवति, पतिट्ठाति सद्धम्मे”ति।

Paññavā, bhikkhave, bhikkhu na cavati, patiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu na cavati, patiṭṭhāti saddhamme”ti.
A bhikkhu with five qualities doesn’t fail, and establishes themselves in the true teaching. What five? A bhikkhu who is faithful … conscientious … prudent … energetic … wise doesn’t fail, and establishes themselves in the true teaching. A bhikkhu with these five qualities doesn’t fail, and establishes themselves in the true teaching.”
