Cerebrovascular Disorder
Definition 1
A disorder resulting from inadequate blood flow in the vessels that supply the brain. Representative examples include cerebrovascular ischemia, cerebral embolism, and cerebral infarction. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 2
A broad category of disorders characterized by impairment of blood flow in the arteries and veins which supply the brain. These include CEREBRAL INFARCTION; BRAIN ISCHEMIA; HYPOXIA, BRAIN; INTRACRANIAL EMBOLISM AND THROMBOSIS; INTRACRANIAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS; and VASCULITIS, CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. In common usage, the term cerebrovascular disorders is not limited to conditions that affect the cerebrum, but refers to vascular disorders of the entire brain including the DIENCEPHALON; BRAIN STEM; and CEREBELLUM. A disorder resulting from inadequate blood flow in the arteries that supply the brain. The diagnostic criteria may include current or previous history of the following: Ischemic stroke, TIA, Noninvasive or invasive arterial imaging test demonstrating greater than or equal to 50% stenosis of any of the major extracranial or intracranial vessels to the brain; Previous cervical or cerebral artery revascularization surgery or percutaneous intervention.
