Chemokine (C-X-C Motif) Ligand 1
Definition 1
A CXC (or alpha) chemokine also known as MGSA, or melanoma growth-stimulating activity. This family of chemokines also includes IL-8, platelet factor 4 (PF-4), beta-thromboglobulin (b-TG), IP-10, and ENA-78. GRO is chemotactic for neutrophils. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 2
GRO1 (MGSA) is a CXC (alpha) mitogenic chemokine secreted by melanoma cells, structurally related to platelet derived beta-thromboglobulin, and chemotactic for neutrophils. MGSA belongs to a superfamily of proteins that includes interleukin-8 and platelet factor-4. Chemokines regulate immune system function and leukocyte trafficking, through interactions with GPCRs, and have effects on the central nervous system as well as endothelial cells involved in angiogenesis or angiostasis.
