    Clostridium histolyticum

    Definition 1

    A species of anaerobic, Gram positive, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is indole negative, liquefies gelatin, does not reduce nitrate and does not produce acid from lactose or ribose. C. histolyticum is pathogenic when exposed to open wounds on the body but not upon ingestion. (NCI Thesaurus)
