Colony Forming Unit
A unit of measurement of viable bacterial numbers. Colony forming unit (CFU) is the minimum number of separable cells, which is able to produce a visible colony of progeny. The examples of CFU usage include but not limited to the measurement of the number of bacteria present in the environment, and the ability of stem cells to produce cells of single or multiple lineages.
