    Corynebacterium macginleyi

    Definition 1

    A species of aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive, coryneform, pleomorphic bacilli assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, catalase positive, oxidase negative, urease negative, pyrazinamidase negative, lipophilic, does not hydrolyze esculin, ferments glucose and sucrose, and reduces nitrate. C. macginleyi is commensal to the ocular conjunctiva, but is also an opportunistic pathogen that causes conjunctivitis, corneal ulcerations, keratitis, endophthalmitis, septicemia and catheter related infections.
