Cutaneous Oximetry
Noninvasive measurement or determination of the partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide locally in the capillaries of a tissue by the application to the skin of a special set of electrodes. These electrodes contain photoelectric sensors capable to detect the specific wavelengths of radiation emitted by oxygenated versus reduced hemoglobin. Tissue oxygenation measurement is a useful tool for appropriate patient selection for HBO therapy and for choosing strategies for management of peripheral vascular diseases, chronic nonhealing wounds and other conditions.
