Ten Kinds of Deeds
“අසප්පුරිසඤ්ච වෝ, භික්ඛවේ, දේසේස්සාමි, අසප්පුරිසේන අසප්පුරිසතරඤ්ච; සප්පුරිසඤ්ච, සප්පුරිසේන සප්පුරිසතරඤ්ච. තං සුණාථ …පේ….
“Bhikkhus, I will teach you a bad person and a worse person, a good person and a better person.
“කතමෝ ච, භික්ඛවේ, අසප්පුරිසෝ? ඉධ, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකච්චෝ පාණාතිපාතී හෝති, අදින්නාදායී හෝති, කාමේසුමිච්ඡාචාරී හෝති, මුසාවාදී හෝති, පිසුණවාචෝ හෝති, ඵරුසවාචෝ හෝති, සම්ඵප්පලාපී හෝති, අභිජ්ඣාලු හෝති, බ්‍යාපන්නචිත්තෝ හෝති, මිච්ඡාදිට්ඨිකෝ හෝති. අයං වුච්චති, භික්ඛවේ, අසප්පුරිසෝ.
And what is a bad person? It’s someone who kills living creatures, steals, and commits sexual misconduct. They use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. And they’re covetous, malicious, with wrong view. This is called a bad person.
කතමෝ ච, භික්ඛවේ, අසප්පුරිසේන අසප්පුරිසතරෝ? ඉධ, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකච්චෝ අත්තනා ච පාණාතිපාතී හෝති, පරඤ්ච පාණාතිපාතේ සමාදපේති …පේ… අත්තනා ච අභිජ්ඣාලු හෝති, පරඤ්ච අභිජ්ඣාය සමාදපේති; අත්තනා ච බ්‍යාපන්නචිත්තෝ හෝති, පරඤ්ච බ්‍යාපාදේ සමාදපේති, අත්තනා ච මිච්ඡාදිට්ඨිකෝ හෝති, පරඤ්ච මිච්ඡාදිට්ඨියා සමාදපේති. අයං වුච්චති, භික්ඛවේ, අසප්පුරිසේන අසප්පුරිසතරෝ.
And what is a worse person? It’s someone who kills living creatures, steals, and commits sexual misconduct. They use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. They’re covetous, malicious, with wrong view. And they encourage others to do these things. This is called a worse person.
කතමෝ ච, භික්ඛවේ, සප්පුරිසෝ? ඉධ, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකච්චෝ පාණාතිපාතා පටිවිරතෝ හෝති …පේ… අනභිජ්ඣාලු හෝති, අබ්‍යාපන්නචිත්තෝ හෝති, සම්මාදිට්ඨිකෝ හෝති. අයං වුච්චති, භික්ඛවේ, සප්පුරිසෝ.
And what is a good person? It’s someone who doesn’t kill living creatures, steal, or commit sexual misconduct. They don’t use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. And they’re contented, kind-hearted, with right view. This is called a good person.
කතමෝ ච, භික්ඛවේ, සප්පුරිසේන සප්පුරිසතරෝ? ඉධ, භික්ඛවේ, ඒකච්චෝ අත්තනා ච පාණාතිපාතා පටිවිරතෝ හෝති, පරඤ්ච පාණාතිපාතා වේරමණියා සමාදපේති …පේ… අත්තනා ච අනභිජ්ඣාලු හෝති, පරඤ්ච අනභිජ්ඣාය සමාදපේති; අත්තනා ච අබ්‍යාපන්නචිත්තෝ හෝති, පරඤ්ච අබ්‍යාපාදේ සමාදපේති; අත්තනා ච සම්මාදිට්ඨිකෝ හෝති, පරඤ්ච සම්මාදිට්ඨියා සමාදපේති. අයං වුච්චති, භික්ඛවේ, සප්පුරිසේන සප්පුරිසතරෝ”ති.
And what is a better person? It’s someone who doesn’t kill living creatures, steal, or commit sexual misconduct. They don’t use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. They’re contented, kind-hearted, with right view. And they encourage others to do these things. This is called a better person.”
