Observing Principles, Etc.
“छ, भिक्खवे, धम्मे अप्पहाय अभब्बो अज्झत्तं काये …पे… बहिद्धा काये …पे… अज्झत्तबहिद्धा काये …पे… अज्झत्तं वेदनासु …पे… बहिद्धा वेदनासु …पे… अज्झत्तबहिद्धा वेदनासु …पे… अज्झत्तं चित्ते …पे… बहिद्धा चित्ते …पे… अज्झत्तबहिद्धा चित्ते …पे… अज्झत्तं धम्मेसु …पे… बहिद्धा धम्मेसु …पे… अज्झत्तबहिद्धा धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सी विहरितुं। कतमे छ? कम्मारामतं, भस्सारामतं, निद्दारामतं, सङ्गणिकारामतं, इन्द्रियेसु अगुत्तद्वारतं, भोजने अमत्तञ्ञुतं। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, छ धम्मे पहाय भब्बो अज्झत्तबहिद्धा धम्मेसु धम्मानुपस्सी विहरितुन्”ति।
“Cha, bhikkhave, dhamme appahāya abhabbo ajjhattaṁ kāye …pe… bahiddhā kāye …pe… ajjhattabahiddhā kāye …pe… ajjhattaṁ vedanāsu …pe… bahiddhā vedanāsu …pe… ajjhattabahiddhā vedanāsu …pe… ajjhattaṁ citte …pe… bahiddhā citte …pe… ajjhattabahiddhā citte …pe… ajjhattaṁ dhammesu …pe… bahiddhā dhammesu …pe… ajjhattabahiddhā dhammesu dhammānupassī viharituṁ. Katame cha? Kammārāmataṁ, bhassārāmataṁ, niddārāmataṁ, saṅgaṇikārāmataṁ, indriyesu aguttadvārataṁ, bhojane amattaññutaṁ. Ime kho, bhikkhave, cha dhamme pahāya bhabbo ajjhattabahiddhā dhammesu dhammānupassī viharitun”ti.
“Bhikkhus, without giving up six things you can’t meditate observing an aspect of the body internally … body externally … body internally and externally … feelings internally … feelings externally … feelings internally and externally … mind internally … mind externally … mind internally and externally … principles internally … principles externally … principles internally and externally. What six? Relishing work, talk, sleep, and company, not guarding the sense doors, and eating too much. After giving up these six qualities you can meditate observing an aspect of principles internally and externally.”
