The Chapter on Two Things

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? चेतोविमुत्ति च पञ्ञाविमुत्ति च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Cetovimutti ca paññāvimutti ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom. These are the two things.”

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? पग्गाहो च अविक्खेपो च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Paggāho ca avikkhepo ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Exertion, and not being scattered. These are the two things.”

“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Name and form. These are the two things.”

“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Knowledge and freedom. These are the two things.”

“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Bhavadiṭṭhi ca vibhavadiṭṭhi ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Views favoring continued existence and views favoring ending existence. These are the two things.”

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? अहिरिकञ्च अनोत्तप्पञ्च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Ahirikañca anottappañca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Lack of conscience and prudence. These are the two things.”

“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Hirī ca ottappañca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Conscience and prudence. These are the two things.”

“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Dovacassatā ca pāpamittatā ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Being hard to admonish and having bad friends. These are the two things.”

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? सोवचस्सता च कल्याणमित्तता च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Sovacassatā ca kalyāṇamittatā ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Being easy to admonish and having good friends. These are the two things.”

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? धातुकुसलता च मनसिकारकुसलता च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Dhātukusalatā ca manasikārakusalatā ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Skill in the elements and skill in application of mind. These are the two things.”

“द्वेमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मा। कतमे द्वे? आपत्तिकुसलता च आपत्तिवुट्ठानकुसलता च। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, द्वे धम्मा”ति।
“Dveme, bhikkhave, dhammā. Katame dve? Āpattikusalatā ca āpattivuṭṭhānakusalatā ca. Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve dhammā”ti.
“There are, bhikkhus, these two things. What two? Skill in offenses and skill in rehabilitation from offenses. These are the two things.”
धम्मवग्गो चतुत्थो।
