“पञ्चिमे, भिक्खवे, धम्मे अप्पहाय अभब्बो दुतियं झानं …पे… अभब्बो ततियं झानं … अभब्बो चतुत्थं झानं … अभब्बो सोतापत्तिफलं … अभब्बो सकदागामिफलं … अभब्बो अनागामिफलं … अभब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुं। कतमे पञ्च? आवासमच्छरियं, कुलमच्छरियं, लाभमच्छरियं, वण्णमच्छरियं, धम्ममच्छरियं। इमे खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्च धम्मे अप्पहाय अभब्बो अरहत्तं सच्छिकातुं।
“Pañcime, bhikkhave, dhamme appahāya abhabbo dutiyaṁ jhānaṁ …pe… abhabbo tatiyaṁ jhānaṁ … abhabbo catutthaṁ jhānaṁ … abhabbo sotāpattiphalaṁ … abhabbo sakadāgāmiphalaṁ … abhabbo anāgāmiphalaṁ … abhabbo arahattaṁ1 sacchikātuṁ. Katame pañca? Āvāsamacchariyaṁ, kulamacchariyaṁ, lābhamacchariyaṁ, vaṇṇamacchariyaṁ, dhammamacchariyaṁ. Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca dhamme appahāya abhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ.
“Bhikkhus, without giving up these five qualities you can’t enter and remain in the second jhāna … third jhāna … fourth jhāna … or realize the fruit of stream-entry … the fruit of once-return … the fruit of non-return … perfection. What five? Stinginess with dwellings, families, material possessions, praise, and the teachings. Without giving up these five qualities you can’t realize perfection.
