A dodecylthio-phenylacetanilide derivative with hypocholesterolemic and anti-atherosclerotic properties. Eflucimibe is an inhibitor of acyl-Coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT), an intracellular enzyme which catalyzes the esterification of cholesterol into cholesteryl esters and is believed to be involved in intestinal cholesterol absorption, lipoprotein assembly in the liver, steroid hormone production in the adrenal cortex, and foam cell formation in atherosclerotic lesions.
