A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium in the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, indole negative, does not hydrolyze gelatin, reduces nitrate and produces acid from mucate. E. hormachei is an opportunistic pathogen, causing nosocomial infections.
