    Fibroblast Growth Factor 9

Expressed in glia and neurons by human FGF9 Gene (FGF family), 208-aa 23-kDa (precursor) N-glycosylated monomeric secreted Fibroblast Growth Factor 9 has glial growth-stimulating effects and is likely involved in glial cell growth and differentiation, gliosis, and differentiation or survival of neuronal cells. Three molecular species of 30-kDa, 29-kDa and 25-kDa, cleaved at Leu-4, Val-13 and Ser-34 respectively, are found. Expression may be dependent on Sonic hedgehog signaling. (NCI Thesaurus)
