    FOLH1 wt Allele

Human FOLH1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 11p11.2 and is approximately 62 kb in length. This allele, which encodes glutamate carboxypeptidase 2 protein, plays a role in both the uptake of folate in the intestine and the hydrolysis of N-aceylaspartylglutamate, the major neurotransmitter in the brain. This gene is overexpressed in human prostate cancer and may inhibit metastasis of this disease. (NCI Thesaurus)
