Definition 1
An isoflavone found in soy products. Soy isoflavones are being studied to see if they help prevent cancer. (NCI Dictionary)
Definition 2
A soy-derived isoflavone and phytoestrogen with antineoplastic activity. Genistein binds to and inhibits protein-tyrosine kinase, thereby disrupting signal transduction and inducing cell differentiation. This agent also inhibits topoisomerase-II, leading to DNA fragmentation and apoptosis, and induces G2/M cell cycle arrest. Genistein exhibits antioxidant, antiangiogenic, and immunosuppressive activities. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 3
An isoflavone with a hydroxyl group on the B-ring and a second hydroxyl group on the A-ring. (NCI Thesaurus/CRCH)
