Grapes, with or without seeds?
Grapes are one of the most popular and widely cultivated and consumed fruits in the world. They are eaten as fresh fruit and are also used to produce products like wine, grape juice, and raisins. Many studies have revealed that grapes possess a variety of health benefits, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, gut-microbiota-modulating, anticancer and cardioprotective effects.
Grape seeds also contain lipid, protein, carbohydrates, and polyphenols depending on the variety. Polyphenols in grape seeds are mainly flavonoids known for the antioxidant properties that protect the body from premature aging, disease, and decay.
Scientific studies have shown that the antioxidant power of some of those compounds are 20 times greater than vitamin E and 50 times greater than vitamin C.
Extensive research suggests that grape seed extract is beneficial in many areas of health because of its antioxidant effect to bond with collagen, promoting youthful skin, cell health, elasticity, and flexibility.
Other studies have shown that phenols help to protect the body from sun damage, to improve vision, to improve flexibility in joints, arteries, and body tissues such as the heart, and to improve blood circulation by strengthening capillaries, arteries, and veins.
Chew or ground grape seeds before swallowing to get their health benefits. Chewing breaks down the hard outer shell and releases the beneficial compounds inside.
