    Interferon Gamma

    Definition 1

Interferon gamma (IFNg) is produced by activated T cells and is an important immunoregulatory molecule, particularly in allergic diseases. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

The gamma or immune IFNs are produced by T lymphocytes in response to mitogens or to antigens to which they are sensitized. They are acid-labile and serologically distinct from alpha- and beta-IFNs. (from OMIM 147570) (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 3

The major interferon produced by mitogenically or antigenically stimulated lymphocytes. It is structurally different from type I interferon (INTERFERON TYPE I) and its major activity is immunoregulation. It has been implicated in the expression of class II histocompatibility antigens in cells that do not normally produce them, leading to autoimmune disease. (NLM, Medical Subject Headings)
