    Interleukin-24

Encoded by human IL24 Gene, secreted Interleukin 24 Protein (IL10 Family) consists of 206 amino acids with a predicted size of 23.8 kD (precursor). IL24 appears to represent a differentiation-, growth-, and apoptosis-associated protein. It is growth inhibitory toward diverse tumor cells and may contribute to terminal cell differentiation. The protein selectively induces p53-independent apoptosis in breast carcinoma cells and inhibits tumor growth in nude mice. IL24 is a negative regulator of progression in human melanoma cells induced to terminally differentiate. (from SWISS-PROT, OMIM, and NCI) (NCI Thesaurus)
