“पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु आनापानस्सतिं भावेन्तो नचिरस्सेव अकुप्पं पटिविज्झति। कतमेहि पञ्चहि?
“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu ānāpānassatiṁ bhāvento nacirasseva akuppaṁ paṭivijjhati. Katamehi pañcahi?
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu developing mindfulness of breathing who has five things will soon penetrate the unshakable. What five?
इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु अप्पट्ठो होति अप्पकिच्चो सुभरो सुसन्तोसो जीवितपरिक्खारेसु;
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu appaṭṭho hoti appakicco subharo susantoso jīvitaparikkhāresu;
It’s when a bhikkhu has few requirements and duties, and is unburdensome and contented with life’s necessities.
अप्पाहारो होति अनोदरिकत्तं अनुयुत्तो;
appāhāro hoti anodarikattaṁ anuyutto;
They eat little, not devoted to filling their stomach.
अप्पमिद्धो होति जागरियं अनुयुत्तो;
appamiddho hoti jāgariyaṁ anuyutto;
They are rarely drowsy, and are dedicated to wakefulness.
यायं कथा आभिसल्लेखिका चेतोविवरणसप्पाया, सेय्यथिदं—अप्पिच्छकथा …पे… विमुत्तिञाणदस्सनकथा, एवरूपिया कथाय निकामलाभी होति अकिच्छलाभी अकसिरलाभी;
yāyaṁ kathā ābhisallekhikā cetovivaraṇasappāyā, seyyathidaṁ—appicchakathā …pe… vimuttiñāṇadassanakathā, evarūpiyā kathāya nikāmalābhī hoti akicchalābhī akasiralābhī;
They get to take part in talk about self-effacement that helps open the heart, when they want, without trouble or difficulty. That is, talk about fewness of wishes, contentment, seclusion, keeping your distance, arousing energy, ethics, immersion, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom.
यथाविमुत्तं चित्तं पच्चवेक्खति।
yathāvimuttaṁ cittaṁ paccavekkhati.
They review the extent of their mind’s freedom.
इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु आनापानस्सतिं भावेन्तो नचिरस्सेव अकुप्पं पटिविज्झती”ति।
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu ānāpānassatiṁ bhāvento nacirasseva akuppaṁ paṭivijjhatī”ti.
A bhikkhu developing mindfulness of breathing who has these five things will soon penetrate the unshakable.”
