“यं, भिक्खवे, सीलवन्तो पब्बजिता कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ति, तत्थ मनुस्सा पञ्चहि ठानेहि बहुं पुञ्ञं पसवन्ति। कतमेहि पञ्चहि?
“Yaṁ, bhikkhave, sīlavanto pabbajitā kulaṁ upasaṅkamanti, tattha manussā pañcahi ṭhānehi bahuṁ puññaṁ pasavanti. Katamehi pañcahi?
“When ethical renunciates come to a family, the people make much merit for five reasons. What five?
यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये सीलवन्ते पब्बजिते कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ते मनुस्सा दिस्वा चित्तानि पसादेन्ति, सग्गसंवत्तनिकं, भिक्खवे, तं कुलं तस्मिं समये पटिपदं पटिपन्नं होति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṁ upasaṅkamante manussā disvā cittāni pasādenti, saggasaṁvattanikaṁ, bhikkhave, taṁ kulaṁ tasmiṁ samaye paṭipadaṁ paṭipannaṁ hoti.
When they see ethical renunciates coming to their family, the people bring up confidence in their hearts. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to heaven.
यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये सीलवन्ते पब्बजिते कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ते मनुस्सा पच्चुट्ठेन्ति अभिवादेन्ति आसनं देन्ति, उच्चाकुलीनसंवत्तनिकं, भिक्खवे, तं कुलं तस्मिं समये पटिपदं पटिपन्नं होति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṁ upasaṅkamante manussā paccuṭṭhenti abhivādenti āsanaṁ denti, uccākulīnasaṁvattanikaṁ, bhikkhave, taṁ kulaṁ tasmiṁ samaye paṭipadaṁ paṭipannaṁ hoti.
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people rise from their seats, bow down, and offer them a seat. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to a birth in an eminent family.
यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये सीलवन्ते पब्बजिते कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ते मनुस्सा मच्छेरमलं पटिविनेन्ति, महेसक्खसंवत्तनिकं, भिक्खवे, तं कुलं तस्मिं समये पटिपदं पटिपन्नं होति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṁ upasaṅkamante manussā maccheramalaṁ paṭivinenti, mahesakkhasaṁvattanikaṁ, bhikkhave, taṁ kulaṁ tasmiṁ samaye paṭipadaṁ paṭipannaṁ hoti.
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people get rid of the stain of stinginess. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to being illustrious.
यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये सीलवन्ते पब्बजिते कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ते मनुस्सा यथासत्ति यथाबलं संविभजन्ति, महाभोगसंवत्तनिकं, भिक्खवे, तं कुलं तस्मिं समये पटिपदं पटिपन्नं होति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṁ upasaṅkamante manussā yathāsatti yathābalaṁ saṁvibhajanti, mahābhogasaṁvattanikaṁ, bhikkhave, taṁ kulaṁ tasmiṁ samaye paṭipadaṁ paṭipannaṁ hoti.
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people share what they have as best they can. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wealth.
यस्मिं, भिक्खवे, समये सीलवन्ते पब्बजिते कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ते मनुस्सा परिपुच्छन्ति परिपञ्हन्ति धम्मं सुणन्ति, महापञ्ञासंवत्तनिकं, भिक्खवे, तं कुलं तस्मिं समये पटिपदं पटिपन्नं होति।
Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye sīlavante pabbajite kulaṁ upasaṅkamante manussā paripucchanti paripañhanti dhammaṁ suṇanti, mahāpaññāsaṁvattanikaṁ, bhikkhave, taṁ kulaṁ tasmiṁ samaye paṭipadaṁ paṭipannaṁ hoti.
When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people ask questions and listen to the teachings. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wisdom.
यं, भिक्खवे, सीलवन्तो पब्बजिता कुलं उपसङ्कमन्ति, तत्थ मनुस्सा इमेहि पञ्चहि ठानेहि बहुं पुञ्ञं पसवन्ती”ति।
Yaṁ, bhikkhave, sīlavanto pabbajitā kulaṁ upasaṅkamanti, tattha manussā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi bahuṁ puññaṁ pasavantī”ti.
When ethical renunciates come to a family, the people make much merit for these five reasons.”
