ලෝකසුත්ත
The World
“ලෝකෝ, භික්ඛවේ, තථාගතේන අභිසම්බුද්ධෝ. ලෝකස්මා තථාගතෝ විසංයුත්තෝ. ලෝකසමුදයෝ, භික්ඛවේ, තථාගතේන අභිසම්බුද්ධෝ. ලෝකසමුදයෝ තථාගතස්ස පහීනෝ. ලෝකනිරෝධෝ, භික්ඛවේ, තථාගතේන අභිසම්බුද්ධෝ. ලෝකනිරෝධෝ තථාගතස්ස සච්ඡිකතෝ. ලෝකනිරෝධගාමිනී පටිපදා, භික්ඛවේ, තථාගතේන අභිසම්බුද්ධා. ලෝකනිරෝධගාමිනී පටිපදා තථාගතස්ස භාවිතා.
“Bhikkhus, the world has been understood by the Realized One; and he is detached from the world. The origin of the world has been understood by the Realized One; and he has given up the origin of the world. The cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One; and he has realized the cessation of the world. The practice that leads to the cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One; and he has developed the practice that leads to the cessation of the world.
යං, භික්ඛවේ, සදේවකස්ස ලෝකස්ස සමාරකස්ස සබ්රහ්මකස්ස සස්සමණබ්රාහ්මණියා පජාය සදේවමනුස්සාය දිට්ඨං සුතං මුතං විඤ්ඤාතං පත්තං පරියේසිතං අනුවිචරිතං මනසා, සබ්බං තං තථාගතේන අභිසම්බුද්ධං. තස්මා ‘තථාගතෝ(අ)ති වුච්චති.
In this world—with its gods, Māras, and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans—whatever is seen, heard, thought, known, attained, sought, and explored by the mind, all that has been understood by the Realized One. That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
යඤ්ච, භික්ඛවේ, රත්තිං තථාගතෝ අනුත්තරං සම්මාසම්බෝධිං අභිසම්බුජ්ඣති යඤ්ච රත්තිං අනුපාදිසේසාය නිබ්බානධාතුයා පරිනිබ්බායති, යං ඒතස්මිං අන්තරේ භාසති ලපති නිද්දිසති සබ්බං තං තථේව හෝති, නෝ අඤ්ඤථා. තස්මා ‘තථාගතෝ(අ)ති වුච්චති.
From the night when the Realized One understands the supreme perfect awakening until the night he becomes fully extinguished—in the element of Nibbana with nothing left over—everything he speaks, says, and expresses is real, not otherwise. That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
යථාවාදී, භික්ඛවේ, තථාගතෝ තථාකාරී, යථාකාරී තථාවාදී. ඉති යථාවාදී තථාකාරී, යථාකාරී තථාවාදී. තස්මා ‘තථාගතෝ(අ)ති වුච්චති.
The Realized One does as he says, and says as he does. Since this is so, that’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
සදේවකේ, භික්ඛවේ, ලෝකේ සමාරකේ සබ්රහ්මකේ සස්සමණබ්රාහ්මණියා පජාය සදේවමනුස්සාය තථාගතෝ අභිභූ අනභිභූතෝ අඤ්ඤදත්ථු දසෝ වසවත්තී. තස්මා ‘තථාගතෝ(අ)ති වුච්චති.
In this world—with its gods, Māras and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humans—the Realized One is the vanquisher, the unvanquished, the universal seer, the wielder of power. That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
සබ්බං ලෝකං අභිඤ්ඤාය, සබ්බං ලෝකේ යථාතථං; සබ්බං ලෝකං විසංයුත්තෝ, සබ්බලෝකේ අනූපයෝ.
Directly knowing the whole world as it is, and everything in it, he is detached from the whole world, disengaged from the whole world.
ස වේ සබ්බාභිභූ ධීරෝ, සබ්බගන්ථප්පමෝචනෝ; ඵුට්ඨ(අ)ස්ස පරමා සන්ති, නිබ්බානං අකුතෝභයං.
That wise one is the champion who is released from all ties. He has reached ultimate peace: Nibbana, fearing nothing from any quarter.
ඒස ඛීණාසවෝ බුද්ධෝ, අනීඝෝ ඡින්නසංසයෝ; සබ්බකම්මක්ඛයං පත්තෝ, විමුත්තෝ උපධිසඞ්ඛයේ.
He is the Buddha, with defilements ended, untroubled, with doubts cut off. He has attained the end of all deeds, freed with the end of attachments.
ඒස සෝ භගවා බුද්ධෝ, ඒස සීහෝ අනුත්තරෝ; සදේවකස්ස ලෝකස්ස, බ්රහ්මචක්කං පවත්තයී.
That Blessed One is the Buddha, he is the supreme lion, in all the world with its gods, he turns the holy wheel.
ඉති දේවා මනුස්සා ච, යේ බුද්ධං සරණං ගතා; සඞ්ගම්ම තං නමස්සන්ති, මහන්තං වීතසාරදං.
And so those gods and humans, who have gone to the Buddha for refuge, come together and revere him, great of heart and rid of naivety:
දන්තෝ දමයතං සේට්ඨෝ, සන්තෝ සමයතං ඉසි; මුත්තෝ මෝචයතං අග්ගෝ, තිණ්ණෝ තාරයතං වරෝ.
‘Tamed, he is the best of tamers, peaceful, he is the seer among the peaceful, liberated, he is the foremost of liberators, crossed over, he is the most excellent of guides across.’
ඉති හේතං නමස්සන්ති, මහන්තං වීතසාරදං; සදේවකස්මිං ලෝකස්මිං, නත්ථි මේ පටිපුග්ගලෝ”ති.
And so they revere him, great of heart and rid of naivety. In the world with its gods, he has no rival.”
