    Matuzumab

    Pronunciation

    Definition 1

A monoclonal antibody that is being studied in the treatment of some types of cancer. Monoclonal antibodies are made in the laboratory and can locate and bind to cancer cells. Matuzumab binds to the epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) on tumor cells and blocks growth signals. Also called EMD 72000. (NCI Dictionary)

    Definition 2

A humanized monoclonal antibody with antineoplastic activity. Matuzumab binds the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) with high affinity, competitively blocking natural ligand binding and inhibiting receptor-mediated downstream signalling, resulting in impaired tumor cell proliferation. (NCI Thesaurus)
