Metolazone
Definition 1
A long acting, quinazoline-based sulfonamide thiazide-like, diuretic. Similar to the thiazides, metolazone acts on the distal convoluted tubule (DCT) and inhibits the sodium-chloride symporter, thereby preventing sodium and chloride reabsorption and excretion of water. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 2
A potent, long acting diuretic useful in chronic renal disease. It also tends to lower blood pressure and increase potassium loss. (NLM, Medical Subject Headings)
