    Neisseria canis

    Definition 1

    A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram-negative, diplococci shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is oxidase and catalase positive, reduces nitrite, galactosidase negative, does not hydrolyze tributyrin, and does not grow on MacConkey's agar. N. canis is found in the throat of cats and dogs and can be pathogenic. (NCI Thesaurus)
