    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नो वा कामच्छन्दो उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो वा कामच्छन्दो भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, सुभनिमित्तं। सुभनिमित्तं, भिक्खवे, अयोनिसो मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्नो चेव कामच्छन्दो उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो च कामच्छन्दो भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppanno vā kāmacchando uppajjati uppanno vā kāmacchando bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, subhanimittaṁ. Subhanimittaṁ, bhikkhave, ayoniso manasi karoto anuppanno ceva kāmacchando uppajjati uppanno ca kāmacchando bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to sensual desire, or, when it has arisen, makes it increase and grow like the feature of beauty. When you apply the mind irrationally to the feature of beauty, sensual desire arises, and once arisen it increases and grows.”

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नो वा ब्यापादो उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो वा ब्यापादो भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, पटिघनिमित्तं। पटिघनिमित्तं, भिक्खवे, अयोनिसो मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्नो चेव ब्यापादो उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो च ब्यापादो भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppanno vā byāpādo uppajjati uppanno vā byāpādo bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, paṭighanimittaṁ. Paṭighanimittaṁ, bhikkhave, ayoniso manasi karoto anuppanno ceva byāpādo uppajjati uppanno ca byāpādo bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to ill will, or, when it has arisen, makes it increase and grow like the feature of harshness. When you apply the mind irrationally to the feature of harshness, ill will arises, and once arisen it increases and grows.”

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नं वा थिनमिद्धं उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नं वा थिनमिद्धं भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, अरति तन्दी विजम्भिता भत्तसम्मदो चेतसो च लीनत्तं। लीनचित्तस्स, भिक्खवे, अनुप्पन्नञ्चेव थिनमिद्धं उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नञ्च थिनमिद्धं भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannaṁ vā thinamiddhaṁ1 uppajjati uppannaṁ vā thinamiddhaṁ bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, arati tandī2 vijambhitā bhattasammado cetaso ca līnattaṁ. Līnacittassa, bhikkhave, anuppannañceva thinamiddhaṁ uppajjati uppannañca thinamiddhaṁ bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to dullness and drowsiness, or, when they have arisen, makes them increase and grow like discontent, sloth, yawning, sleepiness after eating, and mental sluggishness. When you have a sluggish mind, dullness and drowsiness arise, and once arisen they increase and grow.”

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नं वा उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नं वा उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, चेतसो अवूपसमो। अवूपसन्तचित्तस्स, भिक्खवे, अनुप्पन्नञ्चेव उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं उप्पज्जति उप्पन्नञ्च उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannaṁ vā uddhaccakukkuccaṁ uppajjati uppannaṁ vā uddhaccakukkuccaṁ bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cetaso avūpasamo. Avūpasantacittassa, bhikkhave, anuppannañceva uddhaccakukkuccaṁ uppajjati uppannañca uddhaccakukkuccaṁ bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to restlessness and remorse, or, when they have arisen, makes them increase and grow like an unsettled mind. When you have no peace of mind, restlessness and remorse arise, and once arisen they increase and grow.”

    चतुत्थं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्ना वा विचिकिच्छा उप्पज्जति उप्पन्ना वा विचिकिच्छा भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, अयोनिसोमनसिकारो। अयोनिसो, भिक्खवे, मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्ना चेव विचिकिच्छा उप्पज्जति उप्पन्ना च विचिकिच्छा भिय्योभावाय वेपुल्लाय संवत्तती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannā vā vicikicchā uppajjati uppannā vā vicikicchā bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, ayonisomanasikāro. Ayoniso, bhikkhave, manasi karoto anuppannā ceva vicikicchā uppajjati uppannā ca vicikicchā bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya saṁvattatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to doubt, or, when it has arisen, makes it increase and grow like irrational application of mind. When you apply the mind irrationally, doubt arises, and once arisen it increases and grows.”

    पञ्चमं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नो वा कामच्छन्दो नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो वा कामच्छन्दो पहीयति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, असुभनिमित्तं। असुभनिमित्तं, भिक्खवे, योनिसो मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्नो चेव कामच्छन्दो नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो च कामच्छन्दो पहीयती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppanno vā kāmacchando nuppajjati uppanno vā kāmacchando pahīyati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, asubhanimittaṁ. Asubhanimittaṁ, bhikkhave, yoniso manasi karoto anuppanno ceva kāmacchando nuppajjati uppanno ca kāmacchando pahīyatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that prevents sensual desire from arising, or, when it has arisen, abandons it like the feature of ugliness. When you apply the mind rationally to the feature of ugliness, sensual desire does not arise, or, if it has already arisen, it’s given up.”

    छट्ठं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नो वा ब्यापादो नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो वा ब्यापादो पहीयति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, मेत्ता चेतोविमुत्ति। मेत्तं, भिक्खवे, चेतोविमुत्तिं योनिसो मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्नो चेव ब्यापादो नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नो च ब्यापादो पहीयती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppanno vā byāpādo nuppajjati uppanno vā byāpādo pahīyati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, mettā cetovimutti. Mettaṁ, bhikkhave, cetovimuttiṁ yoniso manasi karoto anuppanno ceva byāpādo nuppajjati uppanno ca byāpādo pahīyatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that prevents ill will from arising, or, when it has arisen, abandons it like the heart’s release by love. When you apply the mind rationally on the heart’s release by love, ill will does not arise, or, if it has already arisen, it’s given up.”

    सत्तमं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नं वा थिनमिद्धं नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नं वा थिनमिद्धं पहीयति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, आरम्भधातु निक्कमधातु परक्कमधातु। आरद्धवीरियस्स, भिक्खवे, अनुप्पन्नञ्चेव थिनमिद्धं नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नञ्च थिनमिद्धं पहीयती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannaṁ vā thinamiddhaṁ nuppajjati uppannaṁ vā thinamiddhaṁ pahīyati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, ārambhadhātu nikkamadhātu parakkamadhātu. Āraddhavīriyassa, bhikkhave, anuppannañceva thinamiddhaṁ nuppajjati uppannañca thinamiddhaṁ pahīyatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that prevents dullness and drowsiness from arising, or, when they have arisen, gives them up like the elements of initiative, persistence, and vigor. When you’re energetic, dullness and drowsiness do not arise, or, if they’ve already arisen, they’re given up.”

    अट्ठमं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्नं वा उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नं वा उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं पहीयति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, चेतसो वूपसमो। वूपसन्तचित्तस्स, भिक्खवे, अनुप्पन्नञ्चेव उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्नञ्च उद्धच्चकुक्कुच्चं पहीयती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannaṁ vā uddhaccakukkuccaṁ nuppajjati uppannaṁ vā uddhaccakukkuccaṁ pahīyati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, cetaso vūpasamo. Vūpasantacittassa, bhikkhave, anuppannañceva uddhaccakukkuccaṁ nuppajjati uppannañca uddhaccakukkuccaṁ pahīyatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that prevents restlessness and remorse from arising, or, when they have arisen, gives them up like peace of mind. When your mind is peaceful, restlessness and remorse do not arise, or, if they’ve already arisen, they’re given up.”

    नवमं।

    “नाहं, भिक्खवे, अञ्ञं एकधम्मम्पि समनुपस्सामि येन अनुप्पन्ना वा विचिकिच्छा नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्ना वा विचिकिच्छा पहीयति यथयिदं, भिक्खवे, योनिसोमनसिकारो। योनिसो, भिक्खवे, मनसि करोतो अनुप्पन्ना चेव विचिकिच्छा नुप्पज्जति उप्पन्ना च विचिकिच्छा पहीयती”ति।

    “Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekadhammampi samanupassāmi yena anuppannā vā vicikicchā nuppajjati uppannā vā vicikicchā pahīyati yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, yonisomanasikāro. Yoniso, bhikkhave, manasi karoto anuppannā ceva vicikicchā nuppajjati uppannā ca vicikicchā pahīyatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, I do not see a single thing that prevents doubt from arising, or, when it has arisen, gives it up like rational application of mind. When you apply the mind rationally, doubt does not arise, or, if it’s already arisen, it’s given up.”

    दसमं।
