Ovarian Endometrioid Stromal Sarcoma
A monophasic sarcomatous infiltrating neoplasm that arises from the ovary. It is characterized by the proliferation of neoplastic cells that are similar to endometrial stromal cells. According to the degree of atypia, it is classified as low grade endometrioid stromal sarcoma or undifferentiated (high grade) sarcoma. In the majority of cases there is involvement of only one ovary. In approximately half of the cases there is associated endometriosis and/or stromal sarcoma involving the endometrial stroma. Low grade endometrioid stromal sarcomas may have a favorable clinical outcome. Undifferentiated sarcomas have an aggressive clinical course and their prognosis is poor. (NCI Thesaurus)
