    Living With Self-Assurance

    “पञ्चहि, भिक्खवे, धम्मेहि समन्नागतो मातुगामो विसारदो अगारं अज्झावसति। कतमेहि पञ्चहि? पाणातिपाता पटिविरतो च होति, अदिन्नादाना पटिविरतो च होति, कामेसुमिच्छाचारा पटिविरतो च होति, मुसावादा पटिविरतो च होति, सुरामेरयमज्जप्पमादट्ठाना पटिविरतो च होति—इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, पञ्चहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो मातुगामो विसारदो अगारं अज्झावसती”ति।

    “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato mātugāmo visārado agāraṁ ajjhāvasati. Katamehi pañcahi? Pāṇātipātā paṭivirato ca hoti, adinnādānā paṭivirato ca hoti, kāmesumicchācārā paṭivirato ca hoti, musāvādā paṭivirato ca hoti, surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānā paṭivirato ca hoti—imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato mātugāmo visārado agāraṁ ajjhāvasatī”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, a female living at home with five qualities is self-assured. What five? She doesn’t kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, or consume alcoholic drinks that cause negligence. A female living at home with these five qualities is self-assured.”
