    पठमआजानीयसुत्त

    Paṭhamaājānīyasutta

    The Thoroughbred (1st)

    “छहि, भिक्खवे, अङ्गेहि समन्नागतो रञ्ञो भद्रो अस्साजानीयो राजारहो होति राजभोग्गो, रञ्ञो अङ्गन्त्वेव सङ्खं गच्छति।

    “Chahi, bhikkhave, aṅgehi samannāgato rañño bhadro assājānīyo rājāraho hoti rājabhoggo, rañño aṅgantveva saṅkhaṁ gacchati.

    “Bhikkhus, a fine royal thoroughbred with six factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is considered a factor of kingship.

    कतमेहि छहि? इध, भिक्खवे, रञ्ञो भद्रो अस्साजानीयो खमो होति रूपानं, खमो सद्दानं, खमो गन्धानं, खमो रसानं, खमो फोट्ठब्बानं, वण्णसम्पन्नो च होति। इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, छहि अङ्गेहि समन्नागतो रञ्ञो भद्रो अस्साजानीयो राजारहो होति राजभोग्गो, रञ्ञो अङ्गन्त्वेव सङ्खं गच्छति।

    Katamehi chahi? Idha, bhikkhave, rañño bhadro assājānīyo khamo hoti rūpānaṁ, khamo saddānaṁ, khamo gandhānaṁ, khamo rasānaṁ, khamo phoṭṭhabbānaṁ, vaṇṇasampanno ca hoti. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, chahi aṅgehi samannāgato rañño bhadro assājānīyo rājāraho hoti rājabhoggo, rañño aṅgantveva saṅkhaṁ gacchati.

    What six? It’s when a fine royal thoroughbred can endure sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches. And it’s beautiful. A fine royal thoroughbred with these six factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is considered a factor of kingship.

    एवमेवं खो, भिक्खवे, छहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु आहुनेय्यो होति …पे… अनुत्तरं पुञ्ञक्खेत्तं लोकस्स। कतमेहि छहि? इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु खमो होति रूपानं, खमो सद्दानं, खमो गन्धानं, खमो रसानं, खमो फोट्ठब्बानं, खमो धम्मानं। इमेहि खो, भिक्खवे, छहि धम्मेहि समन्नागतो भिक्खु आहुनेय्यो होति …पे… अनुत्तरं पुञ्ञक्खेत्तं लोकस्सा”ति।

    Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, chahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu āhuneyyo hoti …pe… anuttaraṁ puññakkhettaṁ lokassa. Katamehi chahi? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu khamo hoti rūpānaṁ, khamo saddānaṁ, khamo gandhānaṁ, khamo rasānaṁ, khamo phoṭṭhabbānaṁ, khamo dhammānaṁ. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, chahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu āhuneyyo hoti …pe… anuttaraṁ puññakkhettaṁ lokassā”ti.

    In the same way, a bhikkhu with six qualities is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of veneration with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world. What six? It’s when a bhikkhu can endure sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and thoughts. A bhikkhu with these six qualities is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of veneration with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world.”
