    Paṭhamaiddhipādasutta

    Bases of Psychic Power (1st)

    “यो हि कोचि, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु वा भिक्खुनी वा पञ्च धम्मे भावेति, पञ्च धम्मे बहुलीकरोति, तस्स द्विन्नं फलानं अञ्ञतरं फलं पाटिकङ्खं—दिट्ठेव धम्मे अञ्ञा, सति वा उपादिसेसे अनागामिता।

    “Yo hi koci, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vā bhikkhunī vā pañca dhamme1 bhāveti, pañca dhamme bahulīkaroti, tassa dvinnaṁ phalānaṁ aññataraṁ phalaṁ pāṭikaṅkhaṁ—diṭṭheva dhamme aññā, sati vā upādisese anāgāmitā.

    “Bhikkhus, any monk or nun who develops and cultivates five qualities can expect one of two results: enlightenment in the present life, or if there’s something left over, non-return.

    कतमे पञ्च?

    What five?

    इध, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु छन्दसमाधिपधानसङ्खारसमन्नागतं इद्धिपादं भावेति,

    Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu chandasamādhipadhānasaṅkhārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti,

    A bhikkhu develops the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to enthusiasm, and active effort …

    वीमंसासमाधिपधानसङ्खारसमन्नागतं इद्धिपादं भावेति,

    vīmaṁsāsamādhipadhānasaṅkhārasamannāgataṁ iddhipādaṁ bhāveti,

    A bhikkhu develops the basis of psychic power that has immersion due to inquiry, and active effort.

    उस्सोळ्हिञ्ञेव पञ्चमिं।

    ussoḷhiññeva pañcamiṁ.

    And the fifth is sheer vigor.

    यो हि कोचि, भिक्खवे, भिक्खु वा भिक्खुनी वा इमे पञ्च धम्मे भावेति, इमे पञ्च धम्मे बहुलीकरोति, तस्स द्विन्नं फलानं अञ्ञतरं फलं पाटिकङ्खं—दिट्ठेव धम्मे अञ्ञा, सति वा उपादिसेसे अनागामिता”ति।
