“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. Katamehi pañcahi? Āvāsamaccharī hoti; kulamaccharī hoti; lābhamaccharī hoti; vaṇṇamaccharī1 hoti; saddhādeyyaṁ vinipāteti. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.
“Bhikkhus, a resident bhikkhu with five qualities is cast down to hell. What five? They’re stingy regarding monasteries, families, material possessions, and praise. And they waste a gift given in faith. A resident bhikkhu with these five qualities is cast down to hell.
Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. Katamehi pañcahi? Na āvāsamaccharī hoti; na kulamaccharī hoti; na lābhamaccharī hoti; na vaṇṇamaccharī hoti; saddhādeyyaṁ na vinipāteti. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge”ti.
A resident bhikkhu with five qualities is raised up to heaven. What five? They’re not stingy regarding monasteries, families, material possessions, and praise. And they don’t waste a gift given in faith. A resident bhikkhu with these five qualities is raised up to heaven.”
