Classical technique for sequencing nucleic acids in which visualization of the bases in the sequence relies on the use of radioactive materials, either radiolabeled nucleic acid strands in the chemical degradation method (Maxam-Gilbert), or radiolabeled nucleotides in the dideoxy-termination method (Sanger).
