    23. Abbreviated Texts Beginning With Greed

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे दस? असुभसञ्ञा, मरणसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा, अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनिच्चे दुक्खसञ्ञा, दुक्खे अनत्तसञ्ञा, पहानसञ्ञा, विरागसञ्ञा, निरोधसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame dasa? Asubhasaññā, maraṇasaññā, āhāre paṭikūlasaññā, sabbaloke anabhiratasaññā, aniccasaññā, anicce dukkhasaññā, dukkhe anattasaññā, pahānasaññā, virāgasaññā, nirodhasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “For insight into greed, ten things should be developed. What ten? The perceptions of ugliness, death, repulsiveness of food, dissatisfaction with the whole world, impermanence, suffering in impermanence, and not-self in suffering, giving up, fading away, and cessation. For insight into greed, these ten things should be developed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे दस? अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनत्तसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा, अट्ठिकसञ्ञा, पुळवकसञ्ञा, विनीलकसञ्ञा, विपुब्बकसञ्ञा, विच्छिद्दकसञ्ञा, उद्धुमातकसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame dasa? Aniccasaññā, anattasaññā, āhāre paṭikūlasaññā, sabbaloke anabhiratasaññā, aṭṭhikasaññā, puḷavakasaññā, vinīlakasaññā, vipubbakasaññā, vicchiddakasaññā, uddhumātakasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “For insight into greed, ten things should be developed. What ten? The perceptions of impermanence, not-self, death, repulsiveness of food, dissatisfaction with the whole world, a skeleton, a worm-infested corpse, a livid corpse, a split open corpse, and a bloated corpse. For insight into greed, these ten things should be developed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे दस? सम्मादिट्ठि, सम्मासङ्कप्पो, सम्मावाचा, सम्माकम्मन्तो, सम्माआजीवो, सम्मावायामो, सम्मासति, सम्मासमाधि, सम्माञाणं, सम्माविमुत्ति—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame dasa? Sammādiṭṭhi, sammāsaṅkappo, sammāvācā, sammākammanto, sammāājīvo, sammāvāyāmo, sammāsati, sammāsamādhi, sammāñāṇaṁ, sammāvimutti—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “For insight into greed, ten things should be developed. What ten? Right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right immersion, right knowledge, and right freedom. For insight into greed, these ten things should be developed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, परिञ्ञाय …पे… परिक्खयाय … पहानाय … खयाय … वयाय … विरागाय … निरोधाय … (…) चागाय … पटिनिस्सग्गाय …पे… इमे दस धम्मा भावेतब्बा”।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, pariññāya …pe… parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … (…) cāgāya … paṭinissaggāya …pe… ime dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā”.

    “For the complete understanding of greed … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go … these ten things should be developed.”

    “Dosassa …pe… mohassa … kodhassa … upanāhassa … makkhassa … paḷāsassa … issāya … macchariyassa … māyāya … sāṭheyyassa … thambhassa … sārambhassa … mānassa … atimānassa … madassa … pamādassa pariññāya …pe… parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … (…) cāgāya … paṭinissaggāya …pe… ime dasa dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “Of hate … delusion … anger … hostility … disdain … contempt … jealousy … stinginess … deceitfulness … deviousness … obstinacy … aggression … conceit … arrogance … vanity … for the complete understanding of negligence … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go of negligence … these ten things should be developed.”

    रागपेय्यालं निट्ठितं।

    Rāgapeyyālaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    पञ्चमो पण्णासको समत्तो।

    Pañcamo paṇṇāsako samatto.

    दसकनिपातपाळि निट्ठिता।

    Dasakanipātapāḷi niṭṭhitā.
