29. Abbreviated Texts Beginning With Greed
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे पञ्च? असुभसञ्ञा, मरणसञ्ञा, आदीनवसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame pañca? Asubhasaññā, maraṇasaññā, ādīnavasaññā, āhāre paṭikūlasaññā, sabbaloke anabhiratasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, five things should be developed. What five? The perceptions of ugliness, death, drawbacks, repulsiveness of food, and dissatisfaction with the whole world. For insight into greed, these five things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे पञ्च? अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनत्तसञ्ञा, मरणसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame pañca? Aniccasaññā, anicce dukkhasaññā, dukkhe anattasaññā, pahānasaññā, virāgasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, five things should be developed. What five? The perception of impermanence, the perception of suffering in impermanence, the perception of not-self in suffering, the perception of giving up, and the perception of fading away. For insight into greed, these five things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे पञ्च? सद्धिन्द्रियं, वीरियिन्द्रियं, सतिन्द्रियं, समाधिन्द्रियं, पञ्ञिन्द्रियं—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame pañca? Saddhindriyaṁ, vīriyindriyaṁ, satindriyaṁ, samādhindriyaṁ, paññindriyaṁ—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, five things should be developed. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom. For insight into greed, these five things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे पञ्च? सद्धाबलं, वीरियबलं, सतिबलं, समाधिबलं, पञ्ञाबलं—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame pañca? Saddhābalaṁ, vīriyabalaṁ, satibalaṁ, samādhibalaṁ, paññābalaṁ—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, five things should be developed. What five? The powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom. For insight into greed, these five things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, परिञ्ञाय … परिक्खयाय … पहानाय … खयाय … वयाय … विरागाय … निरोधाय … चागाय … पटिनिस्सग्गाय पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, pariññāya … parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … cāgāya … paṭinissaggāya pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā.
“For the complete understanding … finishing … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go of greed, five things should be developed.”

“Of hate … delusion … anger … hostility … disdain … contempt … jealousy … stinginess … deceit … deviousness … obstinacy … aggression … conceit … arrogance … vanity … negligence … for insight … complete understanding … finishing … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go … five things should be developed.
कतमे पञ्च? सद्धाबलं, वीरियबलं, सतिबलं, समाधिबलं, पञ्ञाबलं—पमादस्स, भिक्खवे, पटिनिस्सग्गाय इमे पञ्च धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
Katame pañca? Saddhābalaṁ, vīriyabalaṁ, satibalaṁ, samādhibalaṁ, paññābalaṁ—pamādassa, bhikkhave, paṭinissaggāya ime pañca dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
What five? The powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom. For the letting go of negligence, these five things should be developed.”

Tassuddānaṁ
अभिञ्ञाय परिञ्ञाय परिक्खयाय, पहानाय खयाय वयेन च; विरागनिरोधा चागञ्च, पटिनिस्सग्गो इमे दसाति।
Abhiññāya pariññāya parikkhayāya, Pahānāya khayāya vayena ca; Virāganirodhā cāgañca, Paṭinissaggo ime dasāti.
पञ्चकनिपातो निट्ठितो।
Pañcakanipāto niṭṭhito.
तत्रिदं वग्गुद्दानं
Tatridaṁ vagguddānaṁ
सेखबलं बलञ्चेव, पञ्चङ्गिकञ्च सुमनं; मुण्डनीवरणञ्च सञ्ञञ्च, योधाजीवञ्च अट्ठमं; थेरं ककुधफासुञ्च, अन्धकविन्दद्वादसं; गिलानराजतिकण्डं, सद्धम्माघातुपासकं; अरञ्ञब्राह्मणञ्चेव, किमिलक्कोसकं तथा; दीघाचारावासिकञ्च, दुच्चरितूपसम्पदन्ति।
Sekhabalaṁ balañceva, Pañcaṅgikañca sumanaṁ; Muṇḍanīvaraṇañca saññañca, Yodhājīvañca aṭṭhamaṁ; Theraṁ kakudhaphāsuñca, Andhakavindadvādasaṁ; Gilānarājatikaṇḍaṁ, Saddhammāghātupāsakaṁ; Araññabrāhmaṇañceva, Kimilakkosakaṁ tathā; Dīghācārāvāsikañca, Duccaritūpasampadanti.
