    11. Abbreviated Texts Beginning With Greed

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे सत्त? सतिसम्बोज्झङ्गो …पे… उपेक्खासम्बोज्झङ्गो—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya satta dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame satta? Satisambojjhaṅgo …pe… upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime satta dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, for insight into greed, seven things should be developed. What seven? The awakening factor of mindfulness … the awakening factor of equanimity. These seven things should be developed for insight into greed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे सत्त? अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनत्तसञ्ञा, असुभसञ्ञा, आदीनवसञ्ञा, पहानसञ्ञा, विरागसञ्ञा, निरोधसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya satta dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame satta? Aniccasaññā, anattasaññā, asubhasaññā, ādīnavasaññā, pahānasaññā, virāgasaññā, nirodhasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime satta dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, for insight into greed, seven things should be developed. What seven? The perception of impermanence, the perception of not-self, the perception of ugliness, the perception of drawbacks, the perception of giving up, the perception of fading away, and the perception of cessation. These seven things should be developed for insight into greed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे सत्त? असुभसञ्ञा, मरणसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा, अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनिच्चे दुक्खसञ्ञा, दुक्खे अनत्तसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya satta dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame satta? Asubhasaññā, maraṇasaññā, āhāre paṭikūlasaññā, sabbaloke anabhiratasaññā, aniccasaññā, anicce dukkhasaññā, dukkhe anattasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime satta dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “Bhikkhus, for insight into greed, seven things should be developed. What seven? The perceptions of ugliness, death, repulsiveness of food, dissatisfaction with the whole world, impermanence, suffering in impermanence, and not-self in suffering. These seven things should be developed for insight into greed.”

    “रागस्स, भिक्खवे, परिञ्ञाय …पे… परिक्खयाय … पहानाय … खयाय … वयाय … विरागाय … निरोधाय … चागाय …पे… पटिनिस्सग्गाय इमे सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Rāgassa, bhikkhave, pariññāya …pe… parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … cāgāya …pe… paṭinissaggāya ime satta dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “For the complete understanding of greed … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … For the letting go of greed, these seven things should be developed.”

    “दोसस्स …पे… मोहस्स … कोधस्स … उपनाहस्स … मक्खस्स … पळासस्स … इस्साय … मच्छरियस्स … मायाय … साठेय्यस्स … थम्भस्स … सारम्भस्स … मानस्स … अतिमानस्स … मदस्स … पमादस्स अभिञ्ञाय …पे… परिञ्ञाय … परिक्खयाय … पहानाय … खयाय … वयाय … विरागाय … निरोधाय … चागाय … पटिनिस्सग्गाय …पे… इमे सत्त धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।

    “Dosassa …pe… mohassa … kodhassa … upanāhassa … makkhassa … paḷāsassa … issāya … macchariyassa … māyāya … sāṭheyyassa … thambhassa … sārambhassa … mānassa … atimānassa … madassa … pamādassa abhiññāya …pe… pariññāya … parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … cāgāya … paṭinissaggāya …pe… ime satta dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.

    “Of hate … delusion … anger … hostility … disdain … contempt … jealousy … stinginess … deceitfulness … deviousness … obstinacy … aggression … conceit … arrogance … vanity … for insight into negligence … complete understanding … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go of negligence these seven things should be developed.”

    इदमवोच भगवा। अत्तमना ते भिक्खू भगवतो भासितं अभिनन्दुन्ति।

    Idamavoca bhagavā. Attamanā te bhikkhū bhagavato bhāsitaṁ abhinandunti.

    That is what the Buddha said. Satisfied, the bhikkhus approved what the Buddha said.

    रागपेय्यालं निट्ठितं।

    Rāgapeyyālaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    सत्तकनिपातपाळि निट्ठिता।

    Sattakanipātapāḷi niṭṭhitā.
