10. Abbreviated Texts Beginning with Greed
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे नव? असुभसञ्ञा, मरणसञ्ञा, आहारे पटिकूलसञ्ञा, सब्बलोके अनभिरतसञ्ञा, अनिच्चसञ्ञा, अनिच्चे दुक्खसञ्ञा, दुक्खे अनत्तसञ्ञा, पहानसञ्ञा, विरागसञ्ञा—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya nava dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame nava? Asubhasaññā, maraṇasaññā, āhāre paṭikūlasaññā, sabbaloke anabhiratasaññā, aniccasaññā, anicce dukkhasaññā, dukkhe anattasaññā, pahānasaññā, virāgasaññā—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime nava dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, nine things should be developed. What nine? The perceptions of ugliness, death, repulsiveness of food, dissatisfaction with the whole world, impermanence, suffering in impermanence, not-self in suffering, giving up, and fading away. For insight into greed, these nine things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा। कतमे नव? पठमं झानं, दुतियं झानं, ततियं झानं, चतुत्थं झानं, आकासानञ्चायतनं, विञ्ञाणञ्चायतनं, आकिञ्चञ्ञायतनं, नेवसञ्ञानासञ्ञायतनं, सञ्ञावेदयितनिरोधो—रागस्स, भिक्खवे, अभिञ्ञाय इमे नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya nava dhammā bhāvetabbā. Katame nava? Paṭhamaṁ jhānaṁ, dutiyaṁ jhānaṁ, tatiyaṁ jhānaṁ, catutthaṁ jhānaṁ, ākāsānañcāyatanaṁ, viññāṇañcāyatanaṁ, ākiñcaññāyatanaṁ, nevasaññānāsaññāyatanaṁ, saññāvedayitanirodho—rāgassa, bhikkhave, abhiññāya ime nava dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into greed, nine things should be developed. What nine? The first jhāna, the second jhāna, the third jhāna, the fourth jhāna, the dimension of infinite space, the dimension of infinite consciousness, the dimension of nothingness, the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, and the cessation of perception and feeling. For insight into greed, these nine things should be developed.”
“रागस्स, भिक्खवे, परिञ्ञाय …पे… परिक्खयाय …पे… पहानाय …पे… खयाय …पे… वयाय …पे… विरागाय …पे… निरोधाय …पे… चागाय …पे… पटिनिस्सग्गाय …पे… इमे नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा”।
“Rāgassa, bhikkhave, pariññāya …pe… parikkhayāya …pe… pahānāya …pe… khayāya …pe… vayāya …pe… virāgāya …pe… nirodhāya …pe… cāgāya …pe… paṭinissaggāya …pe… ime nava dhammā bhāvetabbā”.
“For the complete understanding of greed … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … cessation … giving away … letting go of greed … these nine things should be developed.”
“दोसस्स …पे… मोहस्स … कोधस्स … उपनाहस्स … मक्खस्स … पळासस्स … इस्साय … मच्छरियस्स … मायाय … साठेय्यस्स … थम्भस्स … सारम्भस्स … मानस्स … अतिमानस्स … मदस्स … पमादस्स अभिञ्ञाय …पे… परिञ्ञाय … परिक्खयाय … पहानाय … खयाय … वयाय … विरागाय … निरोधाय … चागाय … पटिनिस्सग्गाय …पे… इमे नव धम्मा भावेतब्बा”ति।
“Dosassa …pe… mohassa … kodhassa … upanāhassa … makkhassa … paḷāsassa … issāya … macchariyassa … māyāya … sāṭheyyassa … thambhassa … sārambhassa … mānassa … atimānassa … madassa … pamādassa abhiññāya …pe… pariññāya … parikkhayāya … pahānāya … khayāya … vayāya … virāgāya … nirodhāya … cāgāya … paṭinissaggāya …pe… ime nava dhammā bhāvetabbā”ti.
“For insight into hate … delusion … anger … hostility … disdain … contempt … jealousy … stinginess … deceitfulness … deviousness … obstinacy … aggression … conceit … arrogance … vanity … for insight into negligence … complete understanding … complete ending … giving up … ending … vanishing … fading away … ceasing … giving away … letting go of negligence … these nine things should be developed.”
रागपेय्यालं निट्ठितं।
Rāgapeyyālaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.
नवकनिपातपाळि निट्ठिता।
Navakanipātapāḷi niṭṭhitā.
