Seminoma
Pronunciation
Definition 1
A type of cancer that begins in cells that make sperm or eggs. Seminomas occur most often in the testicles or the ovaries. They may also occur in other organs, such as the brain, chest, or abdomen. This happens when cells that have the ability to form sperm or eggs are found in other parts of the body. Seminomas grow and spread slowly. (NCI Dictionary)
Definition 2
A radiosensitive malignant germ cell tumor found in the testis (especially undescended), and extragonadal sites (anterior mediastinum and pineal gland). It is characterized by the presence of uniform cells with clear or dense cytoplasm which contains glycogen, and by a large nucleus which contains one or more nucleoli. The neoplastic germ cells form aggregates separated by fibrous septa. The fibrous septa contain chronic inflammatory cells, mainly lymphocytes. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 3
A malignant germ cell neoplasm of the testis. (NCI Thesaurus/CDISC)
Definition 4
A type of cancer of the testicles. Seminomas may spread to the lung, bone, liver, or brain. (NCI Dictionary)
